Feds indict GB man on child porn

Matassa Matassa A Gulf Breeze man is being held at the Santa Rosa County Jail charged with child pornography offenses at the federal level. Thomas E. Matassa, 23, is accused of receiving and possess- ing child pornography, each incident or incidents allegedly occurring between January 2014 and February 2016.

United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida Christopher P. Canova announced the indictment late last week. The indictment handed down by a federal grand jury following the defendant’s first appearance before the US District Court in Pensacola on Friday, March 10, accused Matassa of receiving child pornography between January 2014 and February 2016, and possessing child pornography involving a minor under age 12 in February 2016.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (ICE), the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office (SRCSO), the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David L. Goldberg.

A detention hearing and arraignment are scheduled in this case to take place today at 12:30 p.m.
