Roux’s the word at Gumbo cookoff

They came, they danced, and they slurped gumbo at the 12th Annual Gulf Breeze Rotary Gumbo Cookoff on Saturday.

Eleven judges selected winners in professional and amateur categories from 21 talented gumbo cooking teams, while ticket holders voted with cash tips on People’s Choice awards. Here are those results.

Professional Division:

1st place Rosewood Health & Rehabilitation Center;

2nd place Specialty Health & Rehabilitation Center;

3rd place Arcadia Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Amateur Division:

1st place GumBros with City of Gulf Breeze Natural Gas;

2nd place tie between Roux Yah – Everwell Specialty Pharmacy and Roux Krewe – Florida Institute of Ultrasound;

3rd place tie between Gulf Breeze Rotary – Sanders Payne and Arrrg Sauce – Greg Smith.

1st place Dr. Stu Bonin, The Kids Dentist;

2nd place Arcadia Health & Rehab;

3rd place Specialty Health & Rehab.

Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit area students. Gulf Breeze Rotary has awarded more than $650,000 in college scholarships to many students who might not otherwise be able to attend college.
