Walk-off homer punctuates Senior Night win

Dorsey’s third home run of season the difference; fellow senior Robinson adds two hits in 11-10 win

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News The five seniors on the GBHS Lady Dolphin softball team will remember their Senior Night for a long time, but one may be remember it the rest of her life.

Kara Dorsey’s solo homer to lead off the bottom of the eighth gave Gulf Breeze an 11-10 win over Choctaw.

The win clinched the number three seed for the Lady Dolphins (12-8 overall) in next week’s District 1-6A Tournament, where they will face second-seeded Choctaw.

The Lady Indians took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before GBHS scored three in the bottom half. Taylor Baker, who went 3- for-4, singled to plate both Riley Robinson and Reagan Raley.

Robinson went 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Raley was 4-for-5 and scored four times. Kamryn Hearn then reached on an error, plating Baker’s courtesy runner, Alyssa Lewter.

Choctaw took a 7-5 lead in the third before a four-run bottom of the third made it a 9-7 game. Robinson’s sac fly plated Hearn before Raley’s double scored Alex Branton to tie it. Dorsey’s single scored Raley before Lewter, running after a walk to Baker, scored on an error.

The Lady Indians would tie it with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before a single tally in the bottom of the fifth gave Gulf Breeze the lead back. Raley singled before scoring on a ground ball hit by Dorsey.

Choctaw would tie the game with a run in the sixth before Dorsey won it in the eighth.

Amaya Torres had a hit for Gulf Breeze, while Sarah Shearman picked up in the win, striking out 10 in six innings in relief of Lexi Masino.

Gulf Breeze closes out the regular season Friday at Navarre.
